- TIG welding
TIG — short for tungsten inert gas — welding is an arc welding process that uses a tungsten electrode shielded by an inert gas (mostly argon) that also acts as a coolant. Compared to other welding techniques, TIG can better preserve the base metals' chemical integrity, and TIG welds are both corrosion- and cracking-resistant. That makes it particularly suitable for demanding applications that require a great deal of precision and reliability, and the preferred welding method in the aerospace and nuclear industries.
For the above reasons, TIG welding is also widely used in lead-acid battery manufacturing. Among the most common use cases is pole welding, especially (though not only) for some types of motorcycle batteries. Over three decades, BTS has become one of the leading experts in the field, offering mature, stable solutions that have become industry standards — to the point that, in countries like India and Brazil, almost every single motorcycle battery manufacturer currently uses our TIG welding machines.

Our TIG welding machines can achieve excellent quality and optimal penetration levels out of the box, while giving expert users more granular control over balance, pulse and other critical settings.
The BTS advantage
An exclusive torch welder and tungsten electrode design — developed with battery poles in mind — helps avoid crater cracks and other defects, and a special welding cup protects the battery cover to prevent burn damage to the plastic surface. The torch itself is fully retractable for easier adjustment.Once properly set up, our TIG machines can function without human intervention. An optional checking station can be added to detect and correct uneven pole height, which is one of the main causes leading to poor weld quality.
While TIG is commonly associated with motorcycle battery pole welding, it is also suitable for other batteries and processes. As a specialized supplier of lead-acid battery machines with a focus on customized solutions, we have also delivered TIG machines tailor-made for industrial and other battery types.
Safety first
BTS TIG welding machines are optimized for energy efficiency and low gas consumption. Thermal overload protection is provided by a water-based cooling system.Unlike other welding methods, TIG is considered to be generally safe, since no ignition takes place and there is no direct physical contact between the electrode and the welded components.
Our equipment complies with all the relevant international workplace safety standards. BTS TIG welding machines are fully enclosed to reduce exposure to gases and other pollutants. UV-blocking windows are used to shield the operator and other persons on the factory floors from excessive light during welding.
